At 19:48 on September 4th, 2011 the PWFD was toned out for a General Alarm House Fire in on Shorewood Drive in the Village of Sands Point. Assistant Chief Waterson (8502) arrived to find a fully involved structure fire and immediately transmitted a SIGNAL 10 (working structure fire.) Heavy Rescue 8522 from, Atlantic Hook and Ladder Co. #1, was on scene within minutes as the unit was already on the road for an earlier alarm. Engine 855, from Flower Hill Hose Co. #1, was the first due engine stretching two hose lines to attack the fire. The fire was knocked down and the main home on the property was spared from any fire damage.

The Manhaset-Lakeville Fire Department responded to the scene with two tower ladder.

The Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company and Plandome Fire Department provided standby fire units during the fire

This was the second major fire in one day for the Port Washington Fire Department and the fifth fire in five days. Many thanks go out to all the volunteers from Port Washington and all the neighboring departments who continue to respond.
